Black Oak Ensemble Makes their NY Debut Performing French String Trios at the Morgan Library and Museum on November 4

NEW YORK, NY (October 5, 2022) ―The Black Oak Ensemble continues its efforts to shed light on rarely heard string trios by prominent and lesser-known composers of the 20th century in a performance marking the ensemble’s New York debut at the Morgan Library & Museum’s Gilder Lehrman Hall on Friday, November 4 at 6:30 p.m. The program features string trios, both complete and select movements, by French composers written in the 1920s and ’30s between the World Wars from the Black Oak Ensemble’s latest recording Avant l’orage (Before the Storm) recently released on Cedille. Much of the music, recorded for the first time for Avant l’orage, will be also be premiered in New York, including Robert Casadesus’s Trio à cordes; Henri Tomasi’s Trio à cordes en forme de divertissement; two movements (Prélude and Divertissement) from Gustave Samazeuilh’s Suite en trio pour violon, alto et violoncelle “Au Trio Pasquier;” and the Chanson from Gabriel Pierné’s Trois pièces en trio. Jean Cras’s Trio pour violon, alto et violoncelle, is also on the program.
