ATHENS, GREECE (May 11, 2022) — Yorgos Lanthimos’ highly anticipated new film, Bleat—the second work to be commissioned as part of the Greek National Opera (GNO) and NEON program The Artist on the Composer—had its world premiere accompanied by live music on Friday, May 6 in Stavros Niarchos Hall at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Following the premiere, the film received eight additional screenings and performances May 6-8. The Greek National Opera’s participation in the co-production is made possible by a grant from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) [www.SNF.org] to enhance the GNO’s artistic outreach.

The award-winning Greek filmmaker (The Favourite, The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Dogtooth) attended the premiere in his home city and was joined by actor Emma Stone, who also participated in a press conference and preview screening on May 5. Mr. Lanthimos and Ms. Stone have previously worked together on the widely celebrated The Favourite and are currently filming a new feature film, Poor Things. The film also features acclaimed French actor Damien Bonnard who attended the world premiere on May 6. The work’s score consists of pieces by J.S. Bach / Knut Nystedt and Toshio Hosokawa that were performed live on the Stavros Niarchos Hall stage by GNO musicians, the Chorus of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, and soloist Angelina Tkatcheva (cimbalom), led by conductor Nicolas Vassiliou and chorus master Agathangelos Georgakatos.
