Jennifer Koh Performs New York Premiere of Lisa Bielawa's Violin Concerto "Sanctuary" with American Composers Orchestra Conducted by Marin Alsop at Carnegie's Zankel Hall, Friday, March 25 at 7:30 P.M.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (February 28, 2022) — Hailed by The New York Times as “one of our most important violinists” and “a tireless champion of new music,” Jennifer Koh is joined by the American Composers Orchestra (ACO) as she brings to Carnegie’s Zankel Hall a work co-commissioned by ACO for her New American Concerto commissioning project—Sanctuary by Lisa Bielawa. The project asks composers to use the traditional medium of the violin concerto as a vehicle for engaging with and responding to issues of today, and Ms. Bielawa’s commission explores the multi-layered and culturally charged meaning of the word “sanctuary” within the American consciousness. Presented by co-commissioner Carnegie Hall on Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m., the performance marks the work’s New York premiere and is part of an evening of premieres by women composers conducted by Marin Alsop.
